This event is arranged by the town of Jõhvi and the non-profit society ECOEST
The purpose of the event is to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the town of Jõhvi on 1st May 2004 and mark it on the EU map as the centre of the easternmost county of Ida-Virumaa.
The JOGGING INTO THE EU event will start in NARVA, on the Estonian-Russian border. The jogging route goes through Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland reaching the German border at midnight of 30th April 2004. In this way it is taking the town of Jõhvi in Ida-Virumaa, Estonia among the first into the European Union.
The route then takes the jogger to Hamburg, Brussels, Chamonix (jogger running up to the Europe highest peak Mont-Blanc (4810 m)), Marseille, then along the coast of Mediterranean Sea to Granada, Sevilla and to the westernmost point on the coast of the Atlantic near Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.
The distance of the whole route is approximately 7500 kilometres.
The initiator and organiser of the event is the Mayor of Jõhvi Mr. Aavo Keerme
And last but not least, the major burden is carried by the JOGGER himself Mr. Mark
